The Feast of the Ascension

Do I realize that this is one week late? Of course I do. That's how I operate. :)

So, 40 days after Easter (40 days after being with the disciples and performing numerous signs and wonders), Christ ascends into heaven promising to send an advocate. It is such a vital belief of Christians that it is included in the creed "he ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead."

The word, ascension, is such a big word for little ears that I needed a good way for Prez to conceptualize it. This idea came from this website and I just tweaked it.

One other thing. The Ascension marks the beginning of the first novena (nine days of prayer). Before Jesus left, he told his disciples "not to depart from Jerusalem , but to wait for the promise of the Father......before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit." Acts 1:4-5 So, when we find the apostles on Pentecost, they are in the upper room, waiting and praying. Many faithful pray a novena to receive the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit. Unfortunately, our family did not start one on Thursday, but there is nothing that says we can't start one on Pentecost Sunday. :) You can find one here or here.
