Aarrr! A pirate party for Prez.

Saturday was the big day. All first mates received an invite with their pirate name....
Peg Leg Josiah, Ms. Sarah of the Red Sea, One-eyed Ethan, Logan the Tattered, Scarface Aaron, Seaworthy Savannah, Hannah the Plunderer, Gracie of the Gallows, Dirty Dog Rainer, Cutlass Konner, Bucanneer Josh, Tiernan the Tyrant, Chloe the Courageous, and then Bubbles and Prez.
Bubbles did the majority of the work on this thing.

Her favorite part was burning the paper. Anyone dressed as a landlubber was a scallywag.

Since all first mates had to prove they were worthy of being on Captain Prez's ship, we began with a personalized game of BINGO. How well did they know their captain?
What is Captain Prez's favorite food? sport that he plays, his bedtime, his favorite color, etc. The winner received three gold coins. At the end of the games, the pirate with the most gold coins won a big prize--a big bag of candy!

Next, we had to see who could obey orders well. So, we played a friendly, but competitive game of Captain Says. (Obviously, played like Simon Says). Our game had a few new commands...swab the deck (pretend to be mopping), walk the plank (march in place), and man the crow's nest (put your hand to your forehead and scan the room. There were two winners for that one.

The next game was "Walk the Plank". There was a zig-zag maze of fat and skinny boards. The goal was to not fall off and get attacked by sharks. The first time through was with eyes open. The second time through was with a patch (or one eye closed). Here is one of my cousin's beautiful daughters.

The next game was Cannonball Crush. Each pirate had a cannonball tied to their leg. They had to pop the cannonball on another person's leg while keeping theirs from not getting popped. This game was definitely the most fun!

This picture says it all!

After that, they were all paid with a bag of chocolate coins to be put inside their goodie bag. Their goodie bag doubled as a treasure map. Each bag had an "X" on it where a clue was hidden to the treasure. They ran off in search of the clue.

This led them to the carport where a treasure chest pinata hung...ready to be busted open!

Prez took the first swing and did a pretty good job. A few pieces fell out and Hubby got nervous that nobody else would have a chance. So, we hurried everyone along allowing only two hits per person.

One pirate hit it in just the right wrong spot and it came detached from the hook/rope. The men had to "fix" it. Obviously this shot would have been better from the other direction. Sorry about that!

Bubbles got her turn last and she broke it open for all to enjoy! After filling their goodie bags to the brim, we all headed inside for cake and drinks. Lots of drinks! (Did I mention it was 102 degrees out that day?)

Well, if you are impressed by the cake, I'm glad. I was too! After my Wednesday fiasco with the lego cake, I was extremely nervous. So, I stuck with a sheet cake (on the bottom..a double pan) and then made the ship cake out of a loaf pan. The candy really added the fun details and I didn't have any crumbs getting into my icing. It was a chocolate cake on bottom and yellow cake for the ship. I used malt balls for the cannonballs, chocolate licorice for the ship railing held up by rolos, and swedish fish for the marine life. The treasure chest was a candle, the "X" and path were red whip licorice and the palm tree was four rolos on a skewer with green RIPS candy for leaves. I was VERY pleased.

Thanks to my sister-in-law and brother (who are always on the ball), everyone got to eat their cake out of a ship like this. They sent these to me after seeing them at a restaurant they were visiting. Don't you think it is AWESOME? Everybody LOVED them. (Thanks, guys)

Even Sweetness got to have some cake! Just look at those dimples!

Here is Prez opening some gifts with some of his pirate friends nearby.

This guitar gift was from Uncle Steve and a highlight of the party. It is something Prez has been asking for since last Christmas.

Last, but not least, Grandma and Grandpa got Prez a new (taller) bike.

On the handle bars it revs up and displays a fictious "mph" speedometer. It's a gadget so he just can't help playing with it.

As you can see, it was a fabulous time! My hope is that he will tuck this memory away and have it forever. That is why I do it....tradition!
