Remembering St. Blaise

Last Friday was the feast of St. Blaise--hence the food candle.

St. Blaise, a bishop from the fourth century, is the patron of throat diseases due to a miracle allowed on a choking child. Our priest invited all of us at Mass that morning to come forward and receive a blessing on our throat. Two candles are used in the blessings in memory of the old woman who brought candles to St. Blaise in thanksgiving for the miracle of rescuing her pig.

This is just a healthy (and "cheesy") way to remember this beloved saint.
